Member Access Changes
A few new options are available for the End Developer and Limited End Developer roles within the ZBOSS Open Initiative.
- End developers now have access to the Stable repo, current development, and the Network Simulator platform. Many new features and fixes are now available, including security fixes, GPCB, and more.
- Limited End developers now have access to the Network Simulator platform.
The Network Simulator is a powerful development tool that allows users to run applications on a Linux PC and use robust development tools for debugging and profiling provided for the Linux system.
Rafael's RT5 Platform Certification from CSA
Rafael's RT5 platform, based on ZOI's DSR ZBOSS source code, has successfully passed MAC and platform certification by CSA. Rafael used their own hardware along with ZOI's testing framework to get ready for the certification. "ZBOSS provides the fundamental test scripts that make testing smooth; some test cases need initial setting changes depending on the GUs behavior, but I think the script is good to use." - Justin Yu, Rafael Micro. The RT5 multi-standard platform is a flexible, high-performance, low-power Zigbee Compliant Platform with up to 1MB Flash and 204kB RAM. Rafael Micro has been a member of ZOI since May 2020.
Espressif's ESP32-H2 Platform Certification from CSA
Espressif's ESP32-H2 platform, which is based on ZBOSS code from ZOI, has successfully passed the Zigbee Compliant Platform Certification from CSA. Espressif is incorporating ZBOSS into their module offering in order to enable Zigbee based systems as a part of their ecosystem. Espressif used ZBOSS along with ZOI resources to prepare for the certification.
zRemote — Zigbee Direct Commissioning App
DSR is an active participant in the Zigbee Direct balloting group and in 2021, the DSR team worked hard on bringing Zigbee Direct commissioning use cases into the Zigbee Direct spec. Now, the Zigbee Direct specification includes sections that describe how to provision Zigbee devices with network parameters in a secure manner, as well as how to automate this process in a standard way.
DSR's zRemote application implementation shows that the described use cases are viable. The application demonstrates key commissioning features of the Zigbee Direct technology, such as simple device discovery, secure commissioning using install codes, mass-commissioning, etc. Check out our demo video!
SuZi Sub-GHz Demo SDK
We're happy to announce the ZBOSS SuZi Sub-GHz SDK for the TI CC1352-P2 platform. The new SDK can be used to evaluate the brand-new SuZi technology developed by CSA. SuZi is dedicated to the use of Zigbee mesh technology on Sub-GHz bands for North America and Europe. The demo version of the SDK can be downloaded from DSR's website (link below).

ZBOSS For EFR32 Demo SDK
EFR32 is yet another platform supported by ZBOSS. The EFR32 platform support code is available for ZOI members and the SDK itself can be downloaded for evaluation from the DSR site below. Though ZBOSS is ported to EFR32MG12 SoC, it may be easily configured for other SoCs from the Mighty Gecko family. The SDK makes use of the native SiLabs RAIL library (Radio Abstraction Interface Layer) while all the other layers (MAC, network, application) come from ZBOSS. The SDK provides the standard ZB3.0 feature set, similar to other ZBOSS ZB3.0 SDKs.

Major ZBOSS Features Finalized
- Security fixes to address security vulnerabilities announced by Zigbee working group in April, 2021. The changes relate to rejoin procedures, including Trust center rejoin and changing capability information during rejoin. For more details see CSA Jira https://zigbee.atlassian.net issues ZPC-1023, ZPC-1024, ZPC-1025.
- ZBOSS API enhancements:
- Give more control over commissioning (including network formation and steering and finding and binding procedures)
- Applications can get information on a device type and network type in runtime
- Applications will be informed on receiving a Permit Join request.
- ZBOSS MAC split architecture was introduced and ZBOSS SDK in MAC split is available for ZOI members for evaluation.
